SUMMARY:Special Screening and Discussion of The Post
DESCRIPTION:The Ferris Seminars in Journalism will host a special screening of The Post on Thursday\, February 8\, at 6:30 p.m. at the Princeton Garden Theatre. Following the film will be a Q&A with Ferris Professors of Journalism Joe Stephens\, veteran investigative reporter for The Washington Post\, and Jim Dwyer\, longtime columnist for The New York Times\, and with Paul Starr\, Stuart Professor of Communications and Public Affairs and Professor of Sociology. \nDirected by Steven Spielberg and starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks\, the Oscar-nominated film is a thrilling drama about the unlikely partnership between The Washington Post’s Katharine Graham (Streep)\, the first female publisher of a major American newspaper\, and editor Ben Bradlee (Hanks)\, as they race to catch up with The New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned three decades and four U.S. presidents. The two must overcome their differences as they risk their careers – and their very freedom – to help bring long-buried truths to light. The Post marks the first time Streep\, Hanks\, and Spielberg have collaborated on a project\, and the film is nominated for two Academy Awards: Best Picture and Best Actress in a Leading Role. \nFor a free ticket to this event RSVP to Margo Bresnen at mbresnen@princeton.edu; include your full name and indicate whether you are a Princeton student\, faculty\, or staff member. Tickets are limited.
