The first spring break trip offered by the Ferris Seminars in Journalism was held last week. The eleven students in JRN 456: Local Reporting, which this semester looks to Paris as a case study, have just returned from the City of Lights, where they conducted interviews, did on-the-ground reporting, and contributed to a class blog every day.
The course is taught by visiting Ferris Professor Elaine Sciolino, former Paris bureau chief for The New York Times and author of the NY Times best seller The Only Street in Paris: Life on the Rue des Martyrs, who arranged for her students to have experiences beyond the reach of the average tourist, including a visit to the Marché de Rungis and a behind-the-scenes tour of Versailles.
In the coming weeks, students in other Ferris Seminars will take field trips to the NY Times, The New Yorker, and Facebook’s Manhattan headquarters.
