Twelve student journalists in International News: Migration Reporting (JRN 449) spent their fall break reporting from Canada. They traveled to the major cities of Winnipeg and Toronto, visited the small towns of Altona and Emerson, and went to asylum courts and community kitchens — all to capture and tell the stories of newcomers in the country with the highest immigration rates per capita in the world.
The students kept a blog during their week in Canada, and their final projects will be posted to it at the end of the semester. The trip was led by Deborah Amos, Ferris Professor of Journalism in Residence and international correspondent for NPR News. The group was also accompanied by John Weeren, founding director of the Princeton Writes program, and Katherine Clifton, coordinator of the Religion and Resettlement Project in the University’s Office of Religious Life.
