Junior Marie-Rose Sheinerman was awarded a 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting for her contributions to “urgent yet sweeping coverage” of the Champlain Towers South condominium collapse while on staff as an intern at the Miami Herald. The Pulitzer Prize is an award for achievements in newspaper, magazine, online journalism, and literature and musical composition within the United States.
Sheinerman, a history concentrator, led a byline on a key story in the Pulitzer entry titled “99 feared missing in rubble of collapsed condo in Surfside as search, vigil continue.”
Sheinerman interned at the Herald with support from a Ferris Summer Grant for Student Internships in Journalism, which is funded by the endowment of Edwin F. Ferris, Class of 1899, to support summer internships in writing, publishing, and journalism, in both print and digital media.
“Marie-Rose is a rare talent — she already has achieved so much even before graduation,” said Director of the Program in Journalism and Professor Joe Stephens, to the Daily Princetonian. “This will not be the last time the world will be hearing from [her].”
Sheinerman is the Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Princetonian and also a member of the Behrman Undergraduate Society of Fellows, a group of juniors and seniors who are committed to the study of humanistic inquiry.
