We go beyond the image and look at how foreign correspondents work outside their home countries to report on fast-moving events that have global impact, sometimes at risk to safety.
We look in particular at coverage of the wars in Iraq and other Middle Eastern nations and of the rise of China — the biggest international stories of the century so far for American audiences — to understand how to report on complex subjects where culture, language and politics can be barriers.
The class aims to train students in reporting and research on international issues, reading and analyzing news coverage and understanding foreign policy debates.
