Barbara Demick is a longtime foreign correspondent and author. In 15 years at The Los Angeles Times she served as bureau chief in New York, Beijing and Seoul. She previously reported from the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Washington and Wall Street for The Philadelphia Inquirer. Demick is the award-winning writer of three books: Eat the Buddha: Life and Death in a Tibetan Town, Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea and Logavina Street: Life and Death in a Sarajevo Neighborhood.
