Investigative Journalism: National Security Reporting in the Era of ‘Fake News’

Erin Banco

Back to "Spring 2026" courses

This course will focus on national security journalism. Students will explore the complexities of uncovering stories and facts in Washington when the systems that exist to protect politicians-lobbyists, lawyers, and fixers-have grown increasingly aggressive. Through learning the tools of investigative reporting, close reading, and discussions with leading investigative journalists, students will learn in real-time how reporters in Washington deal with those systems and overcome other obstacles in the post-Trump era. The course will teach students to produce accurate national security journalism in an environment that tests them at every turn.
