This seminar will focus on writing about the intersection between Washington and economics. Storytelling–the heart of journalism–will be stressed. Starting with the basics of covering economics, the course will branch out to include political subjects as diverse as income inequality, the new presidential administration, China, and immigration. We will identify local controversies that illuminate national issues. Students will learn how to find and report precise, compelling stories about domestic and international political economics by using curiosity, lively writing, and successive edits. The goal is to produce a long-form final project.
