March 30, 2026

The Humanities Council’s Program in Journalism is pleased to announce summer opportunities for undergraduate students interested in nonfiction writing, publishing, and reporting. For full details and eligibility, please visit the Student Internships and Student Funding pages on our website. All applications should be submitted via the Student Activities Funding Engine (SAFE).

Student Internships

All first-year students, sophomores, and juniors who have completed at least one journalism course at Princeton may apply for the following opportunities. Requests from students in the journalism minor will be prioritized. Each internship has its own deadline. Check the Student Internships page for more details. Internships include:

The N.J. State House News Service
Spend six weeks as a researcher and reporter with NJ State House News Service, a news cooperative working with media organizations statewide to publish the work of student journalists who report on the legislature and state government from the capital. Student journalists in the program will cover a range of news events, including legislative hearings, news conferences, political campaigns, and public meetings, as well as conducting in-depth and enterprise work. There are up to three positions available for this internship opportunity.

McCarter Theatre Reporter-in-Residence
The Reporter-in-Residence Fellowship at McCarter Theatre offers a Princeton JRN student the opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant world of a premier performing arts center. The student will work as a journalist, pitching stories and reporting on McCarter’s programming, while also gaining exposure to the theater’s operations, through collaborations with McCarter leadership and networking. There is one position available for this internship opportunity.

The Jersey Vindicator
This six-week reporting internship at The Jersey Vindicator provides students with hands-on experience at an independent, nonprofit news organization dedicated to holding institutions accountable and informing residents about important decisions shaping New Jersey. Interns will work in collaboration with editors and photojournalists to produce stories that matter to New Jersey residents. There are up to two positions available for this internship opportunity.

Editorial Internship at Now Voyager Magazine
The Editorial Internship at Now Voyager offers a Princeton JRN student hands-on experience working at an emerging magazine of longform narrative reporting, with a strong focus on global issues. The intern will fact-check and proofread essays and articles for the fourth issue of the magazine. They will receive mentorship from the magazine’s team and work collaboratively across functions. There may be opportunities for the intern to pitch their own ideas. There is one position available for this internship opportunity.

Editorial Internship at TAPinto Princeton Community News
The Princeton JRN student intern will report, write, and manage a portion of the daily content posted at TAPinto Princeton Community News, a hyperlocal digital news site. The intern will be responsible for day-to-day news coverage and one longform feature article. Topics will span issues of interest to the town of Princeton, including housing, public schools, and infrastructure. Students who want exposure to the planning and execution of a daily publication may find this experience especially worthwhile. There is one position available for this internship opportunity.

The Program in Journalism considers funding requests for the following opportunities. These opportunities are open to journalism minors only.
