Jordan Salama ’19 discusses the impact had by Princeton University’s Program in Journalism on his undergraduate experience and beyond. Salama was among the first cohort of students to receive a certificate in Journalism, after having taken courses with Ferris Professors John McPhee, Joe Richman, and Pico Iyer.
At the program’s senior colloquium, Salama presented his thesis on traveling the length of Colombia’s Magdalena River and connected with former Ferris Professor Jim Dwyer, who then connected him with a literary agent. Salama earned a degree from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and certificates in Journalism, Creative Writing, Latin American Studies, and Environmental Studies. In the year following his graduation, he will travel throughout the Americas in search of stories for “Lulus America,” an educational web series he is producing under the Princeton ReachOut International Fellowship.
