The Literature of Fact: Narrative Nonfiction

Eliza T. Griswold

Back to "Spring 2027" courses

Beginning with George Orwell and culminating with Patrick Radden Keefe, this course is designed to inspire and instruct students on how to write the literary longform. Excellent non-fiction requires rigorous fact-based reporting to craft eloquent prose. In this class, students will learn to report and to write. Along with close reading of the finest non-fiction practitioners, students will build, bone by bone, a spine of interviews, timelines, and sources to craft story elements. We will focus on going deep on a single subject to fashion one semester-long longform piece.
