Audio Journalism: The Power of Investigative Podcasting

Andrea T. Bernstein

Back to "Spring 2027" courses

Investigative podcasting can deliver some of the most powerful storytelling of our time. This course, through intensive listening and analysis, will allow students to look under the hood and examine how the process is done. Students will learn how to gather audio and other material for effective investigative audio storytelling, and how to assemble what we gather into must-listen audio scripts. Working with the podcast "Capitol Offense" and the not-for-profit news outlet, The Alabama Reflector, we will immediately put the techniques we study into practice, reporting how that state's constitution stands in the way of much-needed reforms.

The course is open to first-year students, sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have completed at least one Journalism course.
