The Media and Social Issues: Reporting Across Borders

Mary E. Sheridan

Back to "Spring 2027" courses

Globalization is a defining issue of our time, with immigration, free trade and drug trafficking dominating the political agenda. This seminar goes to the heart of these issues: how and why people move, how borders have been redefined in the Western Hemisphere, how U.S. policy has shaped and responded to these transnational phenomena. Students will do original reporting in Princeton and nearby communities to examine the social and economic implications of immigration and the current backlash to it. Students will learn how to use interviews, data and historical context to power their writing and craft compelling news and feature stories.
